About Us

Background

The Membrane Research Laboratory, established in 2019, is one of the pioneering research facilities at the National Institute of Technology Andhra Pradesh. The laboratory is dedicated to advancing membrane-based separation technologies, with a strong emphasis on ceramic membranes fabricated from low-cost and sustainable raw materials.

These technologies are applied across a wide range of chemical, environmental, and biotechnological processes. The laboratory is actively engaged in cutting-edge research aimed at promoting sustainability, achieving net-zero goals, and supporting circular economy principles through innovative membrane solutions.

Laboratory Infrastructure & Equipment

The laboratory is equipped with high-end fabrication instruments such as a double-shaft mechanized extruder, piston-type mechanized extruder, and hydraulic pressing machine, enabling the development of membranes in multichannel, monochannel, and circular or flat configurations.

For performance evaluation and application studies, the facility houses advanced filtration systems including dead-end filtration, cross-flow filtration, and automated computerized filtration units of varying capacities. These systems are extensively utilized for testing and real-world application of membrane technologies.

Additionally, the laboratory is supported by essential auxiliary equipment such as a high-temperature muffle furnace, hot air oven, ultrasonicator, and Milli-Q water purification system. It also features advanced analytical instruments including FTIR, Particle Size and Zeta Potential Analyzer, and UV–Visible spectrophotometer, ensuring comprehensive material characterization and analysis.

Academic & Research Development

The laboratory is committed to nurturing skilled professionals and plays a vital role in developing competent membrane engineers and scientists. It supports academic and research training at the B.Tech, M.Tech, and Ph.D. levels, contributing to the advancement of knowledge and innovation in membrane technology.
